A word association writing game for May

A new writing experiment, and a book preorder!

Dear Reader,

The next edition of The Writer's Process releases next week, and it's been quite a journey getting here. If you want a print copy, wait for next week. You can preorder the ebook today. (See the post below for links.) You'll hear more from me about that.

But first, here's a writing exercise that I've done most mornings lately and really enjoyed. Yes, even during book pre-launch activities! It's inspired by a story Ray Bradbury's Zen in the Art of Writing (February's book give-away).

The Word Association Game

Want to know the process that Ray Bradbury used to write most of his short stories (or so he says)? It involves using exploratory writing and a simple word game, finding associations between disconnected words or ideas.

See if you enjoy it as much as I do.

If you'd rather watch the video, find it on YouTube.

The Upcoming Book

The Writer's Process 10 Year Anniversary Edition releases next week. (Don't worry, I'll let you know when it's up and ready in all of the retailers.) If you're holding out for the audiobook, you'll need to wait another couple months. These things take time, and I am a finite, limited human!

What's new in this version:

  • More research into creativity and flow
  • Strategies/thoughts on AI and writing
  • A snarkier writing voice

If you like the ebook version, you can preorder it today for 99 cents (or the equivalent in your local currency on Amazon), and you'll get it on release day.

Until next time,

Anne

A simple test for using AI, and a book about beliefs Hi Reader, This week's post is about writing and AI. If you are in the "never mention writing and AI in the same sentence" camp, I hear you and respect your decision. Skip below the post to the book give-away for April—I think you'll like it. For everyone else, here goes. The AI Transparency Test I have tried to sit on the sidelines, to avoid the AI and writing debates as I firmed up my own opinions. But questions about writing and AI are...
